Doss considers the majority of her paintings as "little snippets of life". Each painting Begins with a quick intake of breath as a light-filled colorful section of the landscape jumps up and grabs her. It could be the beautiful colors, the textures of the grasses, or the abstract patterns of shadow and light that appeal to her.
The strong colors and intense values in Doss' work have been influenced by plein air Painting experiences across the country. Her goal is to engage viewers emotionally by creating representational light-filled landscape and intimate still life paintings. When viewing Doss' oil or pastel paintings you feel a part of the landscape or as if you could hold her objects in your hands.
